Abstract
170,878. Reid, W., Reid, R. H., and Reid, W. May 5, 1920. Spring wheels.-A rubber cushion A of cruciform cross-section is connected; as by bolts G passing through the side arms C, to inner and outer rims E, D, the latter being preferably fitted with a rubber tread H. The rim D may be of rigid or other metal, as shown in Fig. 1, or may be formed by resilient strips P of steel or fabric embedded in rubber as shown in Figs. 3, 8, and 9. The side arms of the cushion A, which may be continuous or otherwise, may be braced by spaced struts L, and the body portion B may be formed with radial or transverse apertures. Fig. 8 shows a modification in which the part B has a continuous aperture, into which an inflatable tube S may be fitted through an opening closed by a plug O. In the form shown in Fig. 9, an air-tube S is arranged between the part B and the tread H. Flexible dust-excluding covers K (which may extend to the wheel hub) may be fitted at the sides as shown.
