Abstract

166,336. Raven, F. C. J., Raven, F. H., and Raven, B. A. April 12, 1920. Spring devices.-In shock-absorbing devices for motor-cycles and side-cars, of the kind wherein a wheel-carrying fork or its equivalent has a link connection with the steering-pillar or with the frame, the motion is controlled by torsion springs, one end of each of which is connected to the fork and the other end either fixed to the link or arranged to abut against it. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the steering-fork is coupled to the pillar by links 4, 5, and a torsion spring 9 is arranged on each side of the stem of the T-shaped link 5. One end of each spring is secured at 10 to the adjacent fork limb 2, 7, and the other ends are connected together by a bolt 11 carrying a roller 12 adapted to roll along the underside of the stem of the link. The springs may be similarly applied to a link connecting to the frame the top ends of jointed upper back stays.
