Benches, work. -In work benches or stands for supporting engines or the like of the kind comprising an adjustable cradle pivotally supported between relatively adjustable frames, the latter consist of a pair of single upright columns, at least one of which is adjustably mounted on a base, and the cradle consists of two parallel bars whereby unobstructed access to the engine is provided at one or both ends between the bars. Two hollow vertical columns 4 are mounted on a base comprising two doubleangle bars 1, 2, one of the columns being fixed to the base and the other adjustable along it by means of a plate 13 and bolts 10. Two anglebars 17 are provided with central pins 22 supported in bearings 16 at the upper ends of the columns. A series of holes is provided in the horizontal parts 17<a> of the bars 17 and connecting pieces 29, to which the engine is bolted, are secured by bolts through suitable holes. Cranked side-pieces 27 are pivoted to heads 30 projecting from the bars 17 and also to studs 33 passing through slots 8 in the columns and engaging with clamping-blocks 35, Fig. 5, in the interior thereof, whereby the cradle may be secured in an adjusted position. For supporting three-point suspension engines, a cross-bar 37, forming a support for the third suspension, is secured to two vertical bars 36 fixed to the bars 17 by bolts through any of a series of holes 25 in the vertical flanges 17b. Vertical and lateral adjustment are provided for the cross-bar 37 by elongated slots in the bars 36 and the bar 37 respectively.
