Abstract

137,129. Martin, S. C. Jan. 23, 1919. Benches, work, and bench fittings. - A stand for supporting a rotary engine or like machine of complex form for inspection and repair comprises a U-shaped frame rotatable on a vertical axis, and a V-shaped cradle pivoted horizontally in the frame and provided with upper and lower supports for the shaft of the engine. As shown, the U-shaped frame 2 is pivoted vertically in the pillar 1 of the base 5, 6, and its ends 4 are provided with bearings for horizontal trunnions on a cradle 3 on which the shaft of the engine 15 is removably supported. The cradle comprises end plates 10 and stays 3 attached to the upper plate 11, and stays 14 carrying a lower plate 13, the shaft of the engine 15 being fixed by a nut 16 in the parallel plates 11, 13. The cradle may be fixed at any desired angle by nuts 17 on the trunnions.
