Abstract

856,237. Work benches. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO. May 20, 1959 [May 21, 1958], No. 17227/59. Class 61. A sewing machine 35, Fig. 1 and its associated work table 32 are independently mounted on a machine stand 11 and may each have flexible cushioning means to damp out vibrations between the machine and table. The stand comprises a pair of tubular legs 11, Fig. 2 mounted in sockets 12 of feet 13 extending upwardly into sockets 15 of tranverse arms 16 to which the table 32 is attached by bolts 31 (not shown) extending through flexible cushions 33. Forwardly extending portions 16<SP>1</SP> of the arms 16 are braced by a cross-bar 18 and rearwardly extending portions 16<SP>11</SP> of the arms 16 are downwardly bent and have bosses 19, for a pair of tubular cross bars 20. A fourth bracing cross-bar 23 exends between the feet 13 and serves as a pivot for the operating pedals 24. The sewing machine 35 is mounted at the front on flexible cushions 53 attached to the crossbar 18 in the region of the two front corners and is mounted at the rear on flexible hinges 54 attached to brackets 61 which are slidably adjustable along the tubular cross-bars 20, 21. The brackets 61. are bent upwardly to extend within the machine aperture in the table 32 and provide open sockets 62 for pintles of the flexible hinges 54. The machine motor 70 is flexibly mounted at 75 on a plate 76 which is pivoted by straps 77 to the cross-bar 21 and adjustable in position by a threaded strut 78 to vary the tension of the driving belt 36.
