Tapered spigot-and-socket joints.-A pipe B is connected to a casing A<1> by providing the casing with a threaded nipple a<1> tapered at the top to fit into the flared end of the pipe B and by employing a coupling nut C to screw on to the nipple to force the flared end of the pipe on to the nipple, and a conical leather &c. washer inserted between the inside of the top of the coupling nut and the flared end of the pipe.
