Joints with yielding outer part compressed.-A joint especially for rubber and like pipes comprises an inner ferrule a with a collar b and an outer ferrule c coned and threaded as shown, and split longitudinally, which is secured to the inner ferrule a by the collar j which fits loosely a recess in the collar b. Pins l keep the portions of the external ferrule in alignment. The ferrules a, c may be secured together by means of a screw, the ferrule c being then in one piece but having longitudinal slits extending for the greater part of its length. Tapered nuts e compress the outer ferrule and pipes on to the inner ferrule.
