Abstract

In order in a liquid-crystal display cell having a twisted structure of the nematic liquid crystal to prevent in conjunction with as small as possible an angle of inclination of the molecules the occurrence of regions with an opposite sense of twist, a molecular orientation film (11) consisting of two layers is applied to a substrate (2) by means of an electrode layer (1), the two layers being successively deposited by oblique vapour deposition with different inclinations to the substrate (2). The liquid-crystal display cell thus produced has a wide angle of view and the orientating film produces a small angle of inclination of the molecules to the substrate, and this is optimum for multiplex operation. The orientation film can be designed to withstand heat treatment of approximately 500 DEG C, and is thus optimally suitable for liquid-crystal display cells sealed by glass solder. <IMAGE>
