Abstract

1531972 Sealing conductors through a wall LUCAS INDUSTRIES Ltd 23 March 1976 [15 April 1975 (3)] 15358/75 15361/75 and 15380/75 Heading H2E [Also in Divisions H1 F4 C7 and F2] A seal between an elongated member, e.g. a pipe 31 extending through an aperture in a wall 12 comprises PTFE sleeves 44 and 51, bush 49, sealing ring 48, stainless steel body 45, and brass nut 53. Body 45 is secured to the wall 12 by bolts 47 and nut 53 screws on to body 45 compressing bush 49, made of synthetic rubber, between sleeves 44 and 51, sealingly engaging pipe 31 and the internal surface of body 45. Sealing ring 48 provides a seal between sleeve 44 and wall 12. In an embodiment (Fig. 1, not shown) the seal is used for passing "heat pipes" through the walls 12 of a vacuum chamber (11) of a metal plating apparatus. The "heat pipes" are also used for electrically connecting the article to be plated to an external high voltage supply.
