Abstract

1514257 Lift operated fastening J W VON HOLDT 5 Sept 1975 36662/75 Heading E2A [Also in Division BS] A locking device for use with mould halves, particularly injection mould halves, comprises an anchor block 22, adapted to be secured to one mould part 94 by a screw 32, a retainer block 24, adapted to be secured to the other mould part by a screw 50, a pivot pin 60, a hoist bolt 70 carrying the pin, and a hook 64 on the retainer block adapted to receive the pin and lock the mould halves together when the hoist bolt is pivoted to a vertical hoisting position (see Figure 4). The pin is vertically slidable in slots 62 in the anchor block and a safety pin 80 is provided which, when the mould is mounted on a press, is pushed by an abutment surface 120 on the press, to a position (see Figure 5) in which it prevents the pin falling to the bottom of the slots and in which pivoting of the hoist bolt to a lowermost second locking position (see Figure 7) is prevented by the abutment of a pin 76 on the anchor block with a pin 78 on the hoist bolt. In a mould stored with the parting line 98 horizontal (see Figure 6), the hoist bolt pivots under gravity until the pins 76 and 78 abut to prevent further pivotal movement (the position shown in Figure 6) and the pin 60 is held lightly in engagement with the hook 64. When the upper mould half is lifted the hook cams the pin out of engagement with it thus allowing the upper half to be lifted, the camming action causing the hoisting bolt to pivot upwardly. In a second embodiment, see Figure 11, one half of the mould is provided with a projecting retainer pin 32 and the other half is provided with a locking sleeve 168, biased upwardly by springs 174, and movable downward over the pin to a locking position by means of a hoist bolt (142). The bolt is pivotable about a pin 160 carried by an anchor member 136 about which the locking sleeve is slidable. The sleeve may be moved to the locking position by the action of cam surfaces 166 on the hoist bolt as the bolt is either pivoted anticlockwise to a hoisting position (see Figure 9 not shown) or clockwise to a second locking position (see Figure 13 not shown). In a third embodiment, (see Figure 14) an upwardly spring biased locking sleeve 196 having locking points 198 on its lower edge is cammed downwardly into locking contact with the mould halves, by the curved lower end 222 of a hoist bolt when the bolt is pivoted to the hoisting position shown in the Figure.
