Abstract

1513822 Adjustable backrest PARNALL & SONS Ltd 23 Feb 1976 [4 March 1975] 8848/75 Heading A4J [Also in Division E2] An angularly adjustable backrest support 10, 11 is provided with a stay 17 pivotally connected to the support and passing through aligned openings 19, 20 in a rotatable detent 15 mounted below the seat 12, the walls of the opening being provided with teeth 19a, 20a which mesh with teeth 17a on the stay to hold the backrest in adjusted position. Rotation of the detent about an axis normal to the axis of the stay causes disengagement of the teeth and allows adjustment of the backrest support about pivot 13. The backrest is urged forwards when the teeth are disengaged by a spring 22. The backrest support comprises an upholstered backrest carried by a stem 10 which is vertically adjustable in a channel 11 pivoted to the seat 12 by the pin 13.
