Abstract

1389189 Adjustable vehicle seats BROSEVERWALTUNGSGESELLSCHAFT mbH [trading as METALLWERK MAX BROSE & CO] 14 Feb 1973 [14 Feb 1972] 7244/73 Heading A4J Each side of a vehicle seat frame 1 is adjustably supported on a sub frame 2 by, at one end thereof, a swivel arm 3 pivotally connected at 5 to the seat frame and fixed to a tube 6 rotatable in the subframe and, at the other end thereof, a pair of pivotally inter-connected arms 8, 10, the upper arm 8 of which is pivotally connected at 7 to the seat frame and the lower arm 10 of which is fixed to a tube 11 rotatable in the sub-frame, the swivel arm 3 and the pair of arms 8, 10 each being associated with a separate toothed locking mechanism 28, 29, 35 and 14, 17, 19 respectively, the two mechanisms being separately operable by a single lever 12. The locking means associated with the swivel arm comprises a toothed segment 28 provided on the swivel arm and engaged by a toothed slide 29 engaged by a cam 35 on a block 34 rotatable on the tube 6, the slide being guided for movement in the sub-frame by a pin 32 on the slide engaged in a slot 33 in the block. Disengagement of the segment and slide is effected when a push-rod 37 is moved by a lever 12 to turn the block 34. The locking means associated with the pair of arms comprising a toothed segment 14 integral with the upper arm 8 and a toothed pawl 17 pivoted on the sub-frame 2 and moveable into and out of engagement with the segment by a cam 19 rotatably mounted on the tube 11 and moved by a push-rod 23 connected to the lever. In the second embodiment shown in Fig. 2, the locking mechanism associated with the swivel arm 40 comprises a toothed segment 50 fixed on the tube 48 on which the arm is mounted and engaged by a toothed slide 52 through which the tube extends, horizontal movement of the slide to disengage the segment being effected by a cam 57 rotatably mounted on the slide and engaged with the tube to move the slide. The lock mechanism associated with the pair of arms 43, 44 comprises a pawl 73 pivoted on the sub-frame and having a guide tongue 72 with a pin 71 engaged in a slot 70 in a slide block 66, the pawl being moved out of engagement with a toothed segment 77 fixed on the tube 46 to which the lower arm is fixed by rotation of the slide block about the tube 46 on movement of a push-rod 68 connected to the hand lever. The swivel arm may be at the front or the rear of the seat.
