Abstract

1512080 Printing plate precursors FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 23 July 1975 [24 July 1974] 30873/75 Headings G2C and G2X [Also in Division F2] A printing plate precursor has a light-sensitive layer and at least one other layer, the outermost layer being a resin, removable on development, which has been coated from a viscous composition using a roller with an uneven, surface so that the layer retains the pattern. The uneven surface reduces the contact time when the plate is used in a vacuum printing frame. The resin may be gum arabic, glue, casein, a cellulose, a starch, polyvinyl alcohol, polyethyleneoxide, polyacrylic acid, polyacrylamide, polyvinyl methyl ether an epoxy or phenol resin, a polyamide, a polystyrene sulphonic acid or polyvinyl butyral. The resin may also contain a matting agent. The roller is made of polytetrafluroethylene, polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, carbon fibre or stainless steel and the patterned surface comprises e.g. cones, cubes, prisms, part-spheres or cylinders. The light-sensitive layer may contain a diazo compound or resin, an azide, light-sensitive resins which dimerize on irradiation e.g. polyvinyl cinnamates or polyesters; or polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated monomers. The layers are coated on supports such as aluminium, aluminium alloys, zinc, iron, copper or synthetic resins.
