Abstract

1507929 Ultrasonic mixing and spraying MITSUBISHI PRECISION CO Ltd 4 June 1975 [4 June 1974] 24087/75 Headings BIC and B2F [Also in Division F4] A device for finely dividing a liquid, for combustion, spray drying or humidifying, comprises a nozzle 124b for passing a high pressure gas G, a sonic generator 170 including a cavity resonator 134 to generate an impulsive sound wave when the gas emerges from the nozzle, and conduit and port means 128, 128a and 130, 130a, for introducing the liquid into the nozzle. The tanks 142, 144, for different liquids are connected to a high pressure tube 122 as well as to nozzle 124b and generator 170 includes an impulse-wave generator 140 having a concave surface 140a. In operation, gas under pressure G flows through nozzle 124b, generator 170 and out through a nozzle 132, so as to vibrate resonator 134 to thus generate an impulsive wave at generator 140. Due to a pressure differential between tube 122 and tanks 142, 144, and a reduced pressure in nozzle 124b, the liquids from the tanks are sucked into the nozzle to be finely divided and mixed with each other and with gas G, and the mixing is further improved due to sound waves at resonator 134. Valves 146, 148 may be adjusted to vary the mixture. A single liquid may be divided and mixed with the gas, or more than two liquids may be used.
