Abstract

1507364 Change-speed chain gear SHIMANO INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 20 March 1975 [3 Aug 1974 6 Aug 1974 6 Sept 1974 12 Oct 1974 23 Oct 1974 25 Feb 1975] 11570/75 Heading F2D In a chain-shift gear for a cycle wherein a shift member 9, carrying a guide sprocket 11a, swings on parallel links 5, 6, on a part 1b pivotal on a bracket 1 fixed to the cycle frame, the shift member 9 is located in operative positions, corresponding to the hub-mounted sprockets, by a detent 15 on one member engaging co-operating means 12 on another. As shown, the detent comprises a spring-loaded ball 15 on the shift-member 9 (or bracket part 1b) engaging a selected one of a series of coned recesses 13 in a plate 12 adjustably attached to the bracket-part 1b (or shift-member 9). In Figs. 8 and 9, not shown, the detent 15 is in a member (40) pivoted to one, 5, of the links, and adjustable against a spring (41) by a set-screw (42); whilst in Figs. 11 to 13, not shown, the detent 15 is on an L-shaped member (50) adjustably pivoted on one link 6, and engages recesses 13 in the other link 5. In Fig. 14, not shown, the ball detent 15 and recesses 13 are replaced by permanent magnets (15d, 131) of dissimilar polarity, and further magnets of the same polarity as the detent magnet may be arranged between the co-operating magnets (131). The shift member 9 is moved by a hand lever 33 through twin tension cables a, b, guided in a flanged fixed plate 16 having a fixed pin 17 engaging a notch in a plate 18, pivoting at 22 on the shift member 9 and attached at 19a, 20a to the cable ends.
