Abstract

1505683 Cooling IC engine charges KLOCKNER-HUMBOLDT-DEUTZ AG 4 Sept 1975 [20 Sept 1974] 36495/75 Heading F1B [Also in Division B 1 ] A supercharged I.C. engine has a cooler for the charging air mounted on an intermediate housing 2 which is attached to the engine, the cooler being traversed by a liquid coolant; one or more inlet channels 1 extend from the engine into housing 2 to supply charging air to the cylinder or cylinders immediately below the cooler, each channel having inlet openings 4, an overhanging hood 3 of inverted V-shape, troughs 5 between the inlet channels, pipes 6 for draining off liquid condensed in or leaking from the cooler and a charging air duct extending lengthwise of the engine and leading from housing 2 to supply charging air to the remaining cylinders of the engine, the direction of flow through the cooler being parallel to or at an obtuse angle to the axis of the charging air duct. Each load 3 is integral with housing 2 and extends across the full width thereof. Liquid draining through pipes 6 runs into chamber 7 in which are floats which operate an electric contact, when the liquid reaches a maximum permissible level, to stop the engine or prevent it from being started.
