Abstract

1503096 Fuel injection pumps; fuel injection systems WISSENSCHAFTLICH-TECHNISCHES ZENTRUM AUTOMOBILBAU KARL-MARXSTADT 29 April 1976 [16 May 1975] 17431/76 Headings F1A and F1B Fuel injection pumping apparatus comprises a pumping piston 81 driven by a fuel-actuated motor piston 80 to pump fuel from a working chamber 811 to an injection nozzle 9, the quantity of fuel delivered being determined by the duration of current supply to an electrically actuated valve 6 controlling the supply of actuating fuel to the motor piston 80. Energization of the valve 6 connects a cylinder 71 of a valve 7 to a pressure line 51 instead of to a drain line 10. Pressurization of the cylinder 71 in turn causes the valve 7 to changeover and connect the space above the motor piston 80 to the pressure line 51 instead of to the drain line 10. On de-energization of the valve 6 the valves 6, 7 return to their positions shown and the pistons are returned to their starting positions shown by the flow of fuel from line 51 past a non-return valve 82 into the chamber 811. A pump 3 pressurizes the line 51 and an accumulator 5 connected thereto to a pressure determined by a valve 4.
