Abstract

1497069 Knives GENERAL FOODS Ltd 4 March 1976 [6 Dec 1974] 52977/74 Heading B4B A safety knife comprises a casing 1, 2, a blade 5 mounted on a carrier 7 which is pivotably connected to the casing, a hair spring 8 mounted within the casing and biased such as to normally retain the blade in a retracted position, the blade carrier being movable against the action of the spring by applying pressure to an operating button on the carrier in order to expose the blade for cutting. The casing is formed from halves 1, 2 and formed with a cavity 9 in which the carrier is pivoted via a lug 6, a stop lug 11 is formed on the carrier to prevent its escape from the cavity under the action of the spring. The carrier can be removed from the casing for changing the blade as shown in Fig. 5. In modifications the blade may be arranged to face in a direction other than backwards as shown and the carrier acted upon by a lever, pivoted to the easing, in order to expose the blade.
