Abstract

1495742 Testing cigarettes MOLINS Ltd 23 May 1975 [22 March 1974] 12924/74 Headings G1N and G1S Apparatus for testing the firmness of cigarettes comprises a drum 2, Fig. 1, which rotates to convey a succession of cigarettes 4 against the trailing flank of ribs 2A to a sensing member 6 which is supported by a cantilever arm 8 at a height such that the cigarette is slightly compressed. The resultant force on the member 6 as each cigarette is rolled to the leading flank of the next rib 2A is measured by a strain gauge 10 mounted on the arm 8 and is indicative of the firmness of the cigarette. A plurality of sensors 6 may be located along the length of the cigarette 4.
