Abstract

1437935 Testing cigarette and filter rods TOBACCO RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE Ltd 9 Dec 1974 [11 Dec 1973 21 Aug 1974] 53178/74 Heading A2C To determine the condition of a cigarette or filter rod during manufacture, the throat used to form the tobacco or filter material into a rod includes a moveable segment, an arm fixed at one end and carrying the segment at the other end, a strain gauge mounted on the arm intermediate its ends and means to detect the output of the strain gauge. As shown in Fig. 3 the tongue piece of the throat includes three segments 151, 152, 153 separate from the main body of the tongue 16. Each segment is carried on an arm 30 whose other end is fixed to the main body 16 and is equipped with a strain gauge 123. Fig. 4 illustrates a garniture. A segment 41 fits into a hole in the garniture and is supported on an arm 41 fitted with a strain gauge. U.S.A. Specification 2667172 is referred to.
