Abstract

1495736 Bearings KAMATICS CORP 12 Dec 1974 [18 March 1974] 43767/74 Heading F2A A bearing assembly comprises two relatively movable co-engaging members; the first member has a 0À0001-0À02 thick ceramic coating (as bearing surface) on a metal substrate, the bearing surface being coated with a thin film of parting agent to prevent adhesion to the bearing surface of the second member; the second member comprises a moulded mixture of a cured acrylate composition and particulate solid lubricant. Preferably the substrate is stainless steel, Ti or a Ti-alloy; the ceramic is Cr 2 O 3 , TiO 2 , Al 2 O 3 , TiC or WC optionally with an additive (e.g. Ni/Cr); the parting agent is PTFE, silicone or wax. The acrylic part of the second member may be formed by moulding and curing in situ. A typical bearing (Fig. 5) comprises an inner member 22 and an outer member 30, inner member 22 comprises (Fig. 4, not shown) a metal substrate (34) coated with a ceramic layer 36 to which a thin film (32) of parting or release agent has been applied; the outer member 30 is moulded to a housing 18 in a banjo 38. Split, hollow and solid cylindrical, and plate bearings are also disclosed (Figs. 7-12, not shown).
