1492340 Rotary positive displacement fluid machines CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 17 June 1976 [28 Oct 1975] 25191/76 Heading F1F In a rotary positive displacement fluid machine (of the trochoidal or, as shown, nutating disc-type) the piston 34 is rotatably mounted, within a chamber 12, on an offset portion 24 on a shaft 22, whose axis is parallel to, but slightly displaced from the axis of chamber 12 towards the high-pressure zone of the machine, so that when in use, deflection of the piston 34 and shaft 22 towards the lowpressure side of the machine may occur without the piston coming into contact with the chamber walls 14, 16, 18. As shown the machine is an I.C. engine, the piston having recesses 42 to form combustion chambers.
