Abstract

1487777 Tumbling mills LAPIDARY MACHINE MFRS Ltd 24 Dec 1974 55830/74 Heading B2A [Also in Division B3] A tumbling device for grinding, polishing, de-burning or crushing various materials comprises a rotatable support shaft 2, a barrel 6, means 5 spaced from the shaft providing a pivot support for the barrel when supported on the shaft, and means 1 for rotating the shaft. The means 1 consists of an electric motor which by gearing rotates the shaft 2 supported at its outer end in a bearing 3 on a base 4. A skid 5 constitutes the means 5 and is higher than the shaft 2. In use the barrel 6, which may contain gemstones together with a polishing powder, is rotated in the direction of arrow 8, the skid having the effect of centering the barrel axially so that end stops are not required. The skid itself may be pivotally mounted, or may be in the form of a wheel or roller having a vertical axis.
