Abstract

1485710 Document copying apparatus G RITZERFELD 9 Oct 1975 [17 Feb 1975] 41376/75 Heading G2A A printing mask for masking an original is formed as a tape carrying a series of such masks, which are successively displaceable with respect to the original, each mask having two transparent portions whose distance apart differs in each mask. The copying apparatus is of the type set out in Fig. 1 (not shown), in which an original (24) is scanned by moving mirrors (3, 5) and the image projected on to a rotating drum (9) carrying a selenium layer (10). The tape 27 carrying the masks is supported below the original, from which it is separated by a glass plate, and winds across between spools 28 and 29. Fig. 2 shows two complete masks, of length x, and part of a third. Each mask has a transparent portion 31, which is in the same position on all the masks, and a transparent portion 32 whose spacing from portion 31 can vary on different masks, and whose width can also vary. The masking tape can be stepped from one position to the next, and back again, under manual or automatic control, the details of which can be seen in Fig. 3 (not shown).
