Abstract

1483869 Valved closure M LAMIDEY 12 Dec 1975 [17 Dec 1974] 51049/75 Heading B8T A closure for a bottle under vacuum, e.g. for surgical or pharmaceutical use, comprises a flexible material, e.g. rubber or elastomer stopper 1 passing freely into a neck of a bottle and constituting a clapper-valve for air in the bottle, a projecting portion 2a of the stopper contacting the rim of the bottle and being provided with at least one deformable weakened zone 5 permitting air to pass under pressure from the bottle and reclosing in a fluid-tight manner on the bottle rim, the stopper being retained on the neck by a clamping ring 4 which does not engage the weakened zone 5. A slot 5a may be provided in the stopper to aid flow of air from the bottle. The ring 4 may be screw-threaded or crimped on to the bottle neck. In a further embodiment, a tube for connection to suction apparatus is provided passing through the stopper 1, and pointers are provided to indicate the state of vacuum in the bottle.
