Abstract

1535335 Frangible closure FISONS Ltd 5 July 1976 [5 July 1975] 28409/75 Headings B8T and B8D A frangible membrane 9 is secured to the top of the screw-threaded neck 2 of a squeeze-to-use bottle 1 by a co-operable screw-threaded member 5 having an annular portion 7 to seal the edges of the membrane against the rim of the bottle. Screw-threaded member 5 has a second screw-thread 13 to co-operate with that on eyebath assembly 15, which includes a tube 16 capable of piercing membrane 9 when assembly 15 is screwed down fully on to member 5. The apparatus enables the eyebath and eyebath solution to be stored together in a sterile condition, membrane 9 being pierced only when the eyebath is about to be used. In an alternative embodiment, membrane 9 is replaced by a frangible membrane portion at the top of a diptube member.
