Abstract

1436445 Elastic nursing nipple SCHOTTE BV 27 Sept 1973 [3 Oct 1972] 45290/73 Heading A5X A nursing nipple 1, of synthetic elastic material, for a feeding bottle 6, comprises a circular thickened portion 3 and a flange 2 with the aid of which the nipple can be clamped between the mouth of the bottle and a retainer cap 4 adapted to be fastened thereon, at least one vent channel 7 being provided in said flange 2, said channel having a triangular cross section, the base of the triangle being situated at the bottom side of the flange. The apex of the triangular cross section of the vent channel 7 extends close to the upper surface of said flange. The nipple 1 passes through an opening in the retainer cap 4 which is screwed onto the outer wall of the neck 5 of the bottle 6, the shape of the screw threads allowing air to flow past them and into the vent channel 7 on the creation of a low pressure in the bottle. On tightening the retainer cap 4 on to the upper rim of the neck 5, the elastic flange 2 is compressed and clamped between cap 4 and neck 5. The dimensions of the vent channel 7 are sufficient to prevent liquid from flowing out of the bottle through said channel, but allow air to enter said channel when a low pressure is produced in the bottle.
