Abstract

1482622 Window stays CROMPTON NETTLEFORD STENMAN Ltd 31 Oct 1974 [11 Aug 1973] 38145/73 Heading E2F In a casement stay for windows, a stay arm 2 is so pivoted to a bracket 1 secured to the window frame that the arm 2 is capable of articulation about two axes X-X and Y-Y, the arm 2 being provided on its underside with a socket 13 through which the axis X-X passes and which when the window is closed receives a locating projection 11 provided on a retaining member 13 secured to the window frame, the arrangement then being such that a direct window-opening force exerts no turning movement on the arm 2. The arm is pivotal about the axis Y-Y on aligned projections 9 provided on the arm 2 which co-operate with opposed recesses 8 provided in a nylon bush 6 located to turn on the rivet 4 about the axis X-X. A series of sockets 16 are provided on the underside of the arm 2 which is shaped to allow the projection 11 to slide between the sockets. In order to open the casement frame, the arm 2 is first rotated partially about the axis X-X from the closed position to a position in which the arm 2 extends at right angles to the plane of the casement frame, the projection 11 can then be released from the socket 13 by partially rotating the arm 2 about the axis Y-Y and allowing the projection 11 to slide along an inclined side face 15 of the underside of the arm 2. An embodiment is disclosed in the specn. (Figs. 6 and 7, not shown) with an alternative form of bush and retaining member and having resilient latching means tending to hold the window in position when closed.
