Abstract

147,727. Montupet et Cie. June 12, 1914, [Convention date]. Casting-machines; metalpouring.-Metal is introduced into a mould a by withdrawing the air therefrom, but is restrained until the evacuation is complete either by a valve a<1>, Fig. 4, or by evacuating the crucible o with the mould, and then admitting air or a neutral gas, such as nitrogen, at atmospheric or a greater pressure to the crucible. The mould is covered by a bell f, resting on packing e, which is evacuted through a valve v, Fig. 4, the valves a<1> and y being closed. The crucible is then raised till the pipe c', heated by a coil e', dips in the metal. The valve a<1> is then opened to fill the mould and tl:en turned as shown in Fig. 4 to discharge the metal in the pipe c<1> by admitting air through a passage d'. Air is then admitted to the bell by the valve y, the casting is removed from the mould and the valve plug a<1> is removed and cleared. In the modification shown in Fig. 1 the bell f and crucible o are evacuated through pipes r, t, then air or other gas is admitted to the crucible through a pipe s to force the metal up the pipe n, heated by flue gases, into the mould a, which is then moved to the right on rails l by a screw h to sever the runner, to admit air through a passage i thus allowing removal of the bell and then to admit air through a passage g<1> into the pipe n and allow the metal therein to flow back to the crucible. In another modification the screw h may be attached to a block having distributing passages to a number of moulds.
