1474168 Isomerization of bisphenol SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAAT SCHAPPIJ BV 1 July 1974 [3 July 1973] 31605/73 Heading C2C The invention relates to a process for the isomerization of 2 - (2 - hydroxyphenyl)- 2 - (4 - hydroxyphenyl)propane (o,p-DPP) to 2,2 - bis(4 - hydroxyphenyl)propane (p, p- DPP) in the presence of HCl, these isomers being present in a starting mixture with phenol in a ratio of o,p-DPP to p,p-DPP greater than the equilibrium ratio, at the temperature chosen for the isomerization, the isomerization being carried out under a pressure of at least 1À5 bar (abs.) and under substantially anhydrous conditions.
