Abstract

1472891 Sliver severing device PLATT SOCO LOWELL Ltd 3 Jan 1975 [9 Jan 1974] 01014/74 Headings DID and D1F A device for severing slivers or rovings comprises a pair of nip forming elements 15, 17, e.g. rollers, and means to move one or both from a first disposition spaced on either side of the path of a festoon of sliver Fig. 1 or roving 34 to a second disposition in which the elements co-operate to form a nip, Fig. 7, the festoon of sliver or roving having been located and drawn into the nip by the movement of one of the elements, the elements then being movable to apply sufficient tension to the sliver or roving to cause severance thereof. In the described embodiment the device is employed in the sliver coiling station of a draw frame, the festoon being formed between a full can 23' and a new empty can 23. As the full can moves out of position a hanging flap 35a, Fig. 5 drops down to align the sliver 34 with the. rollers which form the nip. The rollers may be replaced by arcuate elements.
