Abstract
147,117. Meyer, P. June 29, 1918, [Convention date]. Carbonizing processes; retorts.-In carbonizing solid fuel such as lignite, peat, and wood by circulating a current of gas through the charge, the gas from a condenser 4 enters the lower part of a vertical shaft or retort, is withdrawn below a contracted part 3, and reintroduced into the upper part after being heated to the carbonizing temperature in a chamber 5. The carbonized product escapes through an opening 11. together with surplus gas; during charging, the outlet 11 is closed. The carbonizing temperature is preferably 300-350‹ C.
