1471050 Battery charging circuits; protecting charging circuits GES GESELLSCHAFT FUR ELEKTRISCHEN STRASSENVERKEHR mbH 4 July 1974 [4 July 1973] 29595/74 Headings H2H and H2K A circuit for charging the battery 6 of an electric vehicle 1 from a single or three-phase mains supply comprises a rectifier 2, and an isolating contactor 4 provided with contacts 11, the coil of the contactor being supplied by the output voltage of a transformer 5. An earth lead 7 of the mains supply is connected to the metal parts of the vehicle and a fuse 8 is provided in the mains lead which is connected to the vehicle by a connector 3. If a fault develops in the circuit, the contactor 4 is de-energized thereby opening the contacts 11 to isolate the vehicle from the supply and prevent the feedback of current from the battery 6 to other equipment 9. In a modification, the rectifier and contactor are located externally of the vehicle.
