Abstract

1296595 Charging batteries GROSS SON & CAMPBELL Ltd 14 June 1971 [16 June 1970] 29001/70 Heading H2H A battery charging system is arranged so that a battery connected to terminals 5, 6 is charged from an A.C. supply 13 by way of a transformer 11 and a rectifying bridge 17, the system being provided with a relay, the operating coil RL of which is connected across the output of the bridge 17 and the contacts of which are so connected to the secondary winding of the transformer 11 that when a six volt battery is connected to the terminals 5, 6, the relay is not operated and the contacts are in a position selecting the low voltage output of the transformer whilst when a 12-volt battery is connected to the terminals 5, 6, the relay is operated and the contacts change to a position in which the high voltage output of the transformer is selected. In a second embodiment the transformer secondary winding has two parts instead of being tapped as shown in Fig. 1, and the relay contacts operate to connect the two parts either in parallel or in series as required. Thermal overload cut-outs 14, 18 are provided together with an ammeter 20.
