Abstract
1471025 Magnetic holding devices INSTITUT MANIPULACNICH DOPRAVNICH OBALOVYCH A SKLADOVACICH SYSTEMU 10 May 1974 20847/74 Heading H1P In a magnetic lifting device for ferromagnetic materials, a supporting unit (Fig. 1) comprises plural permanent magnets 2 with laterally disposed polarities interposed with high permeability pole shoes 3 in which the polarities reinforce; the upper profiles of the shoes being arcuate and the lower profiles plane to engage the load. A control unit 5 comprises plural permanent magnets 7 arranged in opposed polarities to those of unit 1 interposed with high permeability pole shoes 6. The profiles of the shoes 7 are segments of a cylinder adapted to engage the arcuate profiles of the shoes 3 for mutual engagement and rotation about lateral axis 8 so that on disengagement (Fig. 2) the magnetic field applied to lift the load by the supporting unit is undiminished while on engagement (Fig. 4) such field is cancelled by the field of the control unit for release; the applied field being progressively adjustable by rotation of the control unit. Furthermore, the control unit may be laterally traversed along axis 8 through a full pitch of the spaced pole shoes for further adjustment of the applied field from total reinforcement of the supporting and control unit fields to total cancellation. In a modification (Figs. 6 to 9, not shown), planar control and supporting units may be relatively adjusted laterally in a direction parallel to the common horizontal plane through a full pitch of the pole shoes, by arcuate movement of each pole shoe about the lateral axis, for adjustment of the applied field.
