Abstract
1,187,557. Lifting electromagnets. H. NIELSEN & SON MASKINFABRIK A.S. 14 May, 1968, No. 22934/68. Heading H1P. A lifting electromagnet comprises two magnet coils carried in a yoke having a flat underside with annular polepieces and including an intermediate pole, common to the magnetic circuits of both coils, located between the coils and means being provided for reversing the current in one of the coils. As shown, Fig. 1, the magnet comprises two coils 1, 2 arranged to be independently energized and mounted in a yoke 3 which provides an inner polepiece 5, an outer polepiece 6, and an intermediate polepiece 7 having a magnetic cross-section of approximately one quarter that at each of the inner and outer polepieces. When the coils are energized in the same direction, Fig. 5 (not shown), a large lifting force is provided, the magnetic lines of force passing directly between the outer and inner poles through the load, the field in the intermediate pole being substantially zero. When the coils are energized in opposite directions, the magnetic lines of force pass through the load from both the inner and outer poles to the intermediate pole, the lifting force is reduced and the penetration of the magnetic field into the load is greatly reduced. The magnet may be used to lift a stack of steel sheets or to lift a single sheet from a stack by energizing the coils in the same or in opposite directions respectively.
