Abstract

997,780. Lifting load containers. TRUEHAUF CORPORATION. March 2, 1964 [May 9, 1963], No. 8719/64. Heading B8H. A plurality of load containers 10 is fitted each with arrow-shaped rails 80 which co-operate with pairs of grippers of a lifting device 8 so that the containers may be lifted as a unit. The device 8 is carried at 42 by a crane and has a frame 12 which carries two pairs of bar-like grippers 50, 52 and 54, 56 pivoted respectively at 68 and 60. Operation.-The device 8 is lowered on to the containers 10 so that each pair of grippers engages the sloping surfaces of its respective rail 80, diverges, and then due to gravity comes together and engages under the rail so that when the device 8 is raised each pair of grippers grips its rail and raises all the containers together. The grippers are disengaged from the rails 80 by actuation of air cylinders 94, 96, 98, 100.
