Abstract

1467825 Electron beam magnetic deflecting apparatus PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 12 March 1974 [19 March 1973] 10972/74 Heading H1D A colour shadow mask type c.r.t. comprises one or more guns (e.g. three) for generating a number of beams in one plane and a deflection system consisting of an annular ferromagnetic core 9, a first deflection coil system 11, Fig. 1 (not shown), for deflecting the beams in a first direction perpendicular to the tube axis and in the said plane, and a second deflection coil system (13), or deflecting the beams in a second direction orthogonal to the first, the second system producing a pin-cushion field near the rear of the deflection system and a barrel field near the front, the rear of the ring core having recesses 15 in diametrically opposite locations, the connecting line between recesses being in the plane of the beams. The shape and dimensions of recesses 15 determines the field at the rear of the system to satisfy convergence requirements. Optimum results are produced by a smooth line boundary of the recesses. Coil systems 11, 13 consist of saddle type coils and the fields generated satisfy the requirements in Netherland Pat. Spec. 110,569, the field of the second coil system 13 varying with location as in Figs. 2a-2c (not shown). Core dimensions are given.
