Abstract

1,246,420. Electron beam deflecting apparatus. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 16 June, 1970 [19 June, 1969], No. 29129/70. Heading H1D. A deflection coil assembly comprising a pair of saddle coils surrounded by a magnetically closed ferrite yoke ring 3, is characterized in that the yoke 3 has a flared inner surface provided with at least three projections which are ground to form surfaces which bear on the outer surface of the coils to locate the yoke axially. In Fig. 2, the yoke is provided with four axial ridges 5 which are ground at 7 so that the yoke may be seated at the correct axial location in spite of deformations which may be caused during the sintering process used to make the yoke. Each ridge 5 may be replaced by two or more axially displaced projections. The yoke may be provided with radial lugs 9 which may also be ground and which serve to hold a plastics ring (not shown) for axially guiding a whole set of coils, axial displacement being useful in colour television. The yoke may hold two toroidally wound frame deflection coils, or these may also be saddle coils.
