Abstract
1466761 Cartridge extraction BOFORS AB 8 Jan 1974 [8 Jan 1973] 00897/74 Heading F3C An obturating member attached to a weapon breechblock has means accepting cartridge case material deformed by explosion upon firing so as to grip the case for removal from a chamber prior to ejection. In Fig. 3 the member is a sleeve 13 having a groove 18, e.g. in the form of a knurl or rifling, for accepting deformed plastics material of the cartridge case 15; the sleeve 13 is rotatably supported on the breechblock 12 which has a sectored screw-thread for release. Cartridge case ejection is achieved by rods 19, Fig. 5, a ring 21 in the block 12, and rods 20 extending into the sleeve 13 to push the case from the sleeve. In Fig. 7, the member is in the form of a disc 33 which has a recess 38 with an expanded base to grip the case material; here, after breechblock release, the cartridge case is removed laterally, e.g. by a new cartridge being fed into the chamber.
