Abstract

1466111 Secondary combustion air supply COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 3 Jan 1975 [3 Jan 1974] 00198/74 Heading F4W A solid fuel fired water heating stove comprises a firefront 18 below an opening which may be closed by a door 92, a fireback 20, and a plate 40 spaced from the fireback 20 to define a secondary air passage leading above the combustion space 14 from a location above and to the rear of the firefront 18 to a location adjacent the base of the fireback 20. The plate 40 is formed integrally or, as shown, in two parts 42, 52, the part 42 being held by bolts 44 and the part 52 being supported at its lower end by part 42 and at its upper end by strips 68 on the sides of the combustion space. A panel 70 including horizontally or vertically extending transparent glass tubes 76 is spaced from the firefront 18 to define a passage 86 for airflow downwards therethrough. The door 92 is pivotally mounted on the plate part 52 and is removable from the stove. Secondary air enters the secondary air passage via an inlet 62 regardless of whether the door is closed or open. When the door 92 is open, smoke rising in space 14 is drawn into the secondary air passage. Asbestos sealing strip is provided at the edges of the door 92. Water heating chambers 24, 25, 32, 34 are associated with flue 27. The firefront 18 is a unitary casting.
