1464897 Screwing-up machines BULTENKANTHAL AB 4 Feb 1974 [2 Feb 1973] 05062/74 Heading B3N A screw tightening apparatus comprises a motor driven tool having, e.g. a screw driver bit 18, a magazine 12 for screws 23 fed from the magazine in a corrugated carrier strip, and an advancing means for feeding the carrier strip to place a screw in a preparatory position for tightening, the said advancing means comprising a lost motion connection between a pull member 25 and an abutment member 26, a dog member 29 connected to the pull member, a bell crank 33 actuated by the dog member 29, and a reciprocable slide 37, the said advancing means acting when the end pressure is removed from the motor driven tool at the end of a screw tightening operation and a spring 44 forces a plunger 13 from a cylinder 14 so that pull member 25 moves the dog member 29 at the end of the stroke of the plunger 13 and rotates the bell crank to advance the slide 37 and feed the carrier strip forward. A latch 49, 50 holds back the dog member 29 until a spring 39 causes the latch member 49 to be cammed aside. The slide 37 includes a spring 38 to engage behind successive screws 23 in the carrier strip. A further fixed spring 51 holds the carrier strip stationary when the slide 37 is retracted. An attachment (Figs. 8 and 9, not shown) may be attached to the bottom end 24 to align the end tip of long screws and comprises spring biased pivoted jaws that allow the shank of the screw to pass therebetween and are forced apart to allow the screw head to pass.
