Abstract

1460422 Plate heat exchangers APV CO Ltd 15 July 1974 [16 Aug 1973] 38787/73 Heading F4S In a heat exchanger comprising a stack of gasketed and ported heat exchange plates 1 each formed with a plurality of corrugations or lines of dimples or similar formations which, in use, cross and abut corresponding corrugations or formations of adjacent plates to provide interplate support, the areas between the ends or the corrugations or similar formations and the gasket groove 6 are provided with pressed triangular indentations or protrusions 8. These triangular indentations or protrusions 8, which are normally of reduced height or depth as compared with the corrugations or similar formations, serve to improve the stiffness of the plate. Similar pressed triangular indentations or protrusions may additionally be provided at the junction between zones of the main heat transfer zone 5 having different patterns of corrugations or formations, and at the junction between the distribution or collection area 4 and the main zone 5.
