1459877 Tandem axle suspensions; equalizing axle loads OTTO SAUER ASCHENFABRIK 9 April 1974 [9 April 1973] 15734/74 Heading B7D In a tandem axle trailer or semi-trailer suspension comprising at each end of each axle 20, 22 a laminated spring 16<SP>1</SP>, 16<SP>11</SP>, the rear ends of the springs are connected to the frame of the vehicle by hydraulic cylinder circuits 30<SP>1</SP>, 32<SP>1</SP> and 3011, 3211 which communicate through a balancing pipe 36 so that the axle loads are equalized, and the interior of each cylinder unit is divided into two chambers by a piston 38 including a throttling duct 44 so that there is damping of the balancing action. Each cylinder unit 30<SP>1</SP>, 32<SP>1</SP> and 30<SP>11</SP>, 3211 is so dimensioned that it may be substituted for a spring shackle.
