1456525 Alkanolamines IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 20 June 1974 [18 July 1973] 34165/73 Heading C2C Compounds of the general formula (R<SP>1</SP> = alkyl radical of up to six carbon atoms; R<SP>2</SP> = H or alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, hydroxyalkyl or alkoxyalkyl radical each of up to six carbon atoms; R<SP>3</SP> = H halogen or alkyl, alkenyl, alkoxy or alkenyloxy radical each of up to six carbon atoms; A = alkylene radical of up to six carbon atoms; X = O or direct link) and their salts are prepared by reacting a compound of the formula (R<SP>4,5</SP> = H or protecting group; Z# =anion) followed by removal of any protecting group(s) present and, optionally, salt formation. The products are #-adrenergic blocking agents.
