Abstract

1455807 Game-playing doll; dolls MARVIN GLASS & ASSOCIATES 28 Jan 1975 [15 Feb 1974] 3693/75 Headings A6H and A6S [Also in Divisions El and F2] A doll comprises an upper body portion pivotable against biassing means on a lower portion and an arm movable at a shoulder joint against a Massing means. Each arm 20, Fig. 6, is mounted in a socket 60 and carries a pin 54 snapped into a socket 48 on a shaft 38 carrying a flange 44. A recess 62 in the flange is engaged by one of a number of teeth 64 on the arm to set the angular position of the arm outwardly from the body. The elbow joints (not shown) are friction ball-and-sockets or wire. In addition, a friction pin and journal may provide for further adjustment and a leaf spring may provide further friction holding. Cupped hands made of flexible material are secured by pins 72, Fig. 7, held in V members 73 closed together and frictionally held in bores in the arms. The right arm is biassed by a member 80 engaging an upright limb of a spring 84. Movement of the arm moves a limb away from a stop 86. If moved approximately 180‹ freely in the other direction it engages the other other limb of the spring for an opposite biassed movement. The legs are pivoted at the hips and knees in a similar manner to the elbows. The feet have recesses so that they may receive pins on a base support. The upper body has an inwardly-facing flange engaging a groove 102, Fig. 5, in the lower body which carries a coil spring 106 tensioned by tabs 110, 112. Tabs on the upper portion engage ends of the spring 106 when the upper body is rotated so that a quick rotation ensues when the upper body is released. The head has an inwardly-directed flange which engages in a groove 126 in a ball joint portion 122 carried on a stem 108 of the lower body portion. The ball joint 34 for the head is held together by an internal elastic band 132. Rotation of the upper body occurs independently of head movement. Bowling game Fig. 1B The doll bowls a ball 174 towards pins (not shown), the ball having finger-holes. Tennis game Fig. 1C A pivoted rod 186 is set on one of a number of ledges 192 and the doll actuated to strike a ball 184 on the rod to enter one of a number of marked scoring recesses 182. Golf game Fig. 1D The doll is manipulated to strike a ball (202) into a hole (208). Horseshoe game A shoe (214) is pitched towards a stake.
