Abstract

1455688 Conveyer driving mechanism PELCO ENG Ltd 23 Sept 1974 [27 Nov 1973] 54917/73 Heading B8A Propulsion means for a platform 4 supported on roller tracks 1 of a conveyer comprises a flexibly-walled air tube 5 of which the ends have valves 6, 7 for admitting exhausting air via a selector valve 10, the tube being nipped 17 between a pair of rollers 15, 16 mounted on the platform 4. By supplying air alternately to each end of the tube 5, the rollers 15, 16, together with the platform 4 are pushed to and fro longitudinally of the tube 5. To bring the platform to rest, the selector valve 10 is set to pass the compressed air direct to exhaust. By passing the air to the end of the tube 5 to which the platform is moving or by admitting air to both ends of the tube, a braking of the platform is effected. A train of pallets or platforms supported by the tracks 1 may be connected to the platform 4. Two or more tubes with their associated nip rollers may be arranged in parallel beneath the platform. Water or gases other than air may be used as the propulsion medium.
