Abstract

1452909 Injecting gas into molten metal ELECTRICITY COUNCIL 25 Oct 1974 [24 Oct 1973] 49467/73 Heading F4B A unit for injecting gas into molten metal in a furnace comprises a gas-impermeable ceramic tube 10 containing at its front end a refractory nozzle 11 and behind this a plug 12 of porous refractory material. A gas chamber 13 between the plug 12 and nozzle 11 is of larger diameter than the nozzle passage at the inlet end of the nozzle. Gas is injected through a port 24 in a cap 25 that has an 0-ring 27 making a gas-tight seal with the tube 10, so that there is no loss of gas to the surrounding structure.
