Abstract

1,161,173. Oil or gas fired combustion chamber. KOHO-ES GEPIPARI MINISZTERIUM TUZELESTECHNIKAI KUTATO INTEZET. 24 May, 1967, No. 24095/67. Heading F4B. [Also in Division F1] The invention relates to combustion apparatus for generating combustion gases for use in blast furnaces, air heaters, oil heating cupolas and ceramic and limework furnaces. In the embodiment shown the combustion apparatus is of generally cylindrical form, the wall 9 being formed of refractory material and formed with a constricted portion which divides the apparatus into two chambers 3 and 4 with a throat portion 5 therebetween. The chamber 3 is formed of its left hand end with a hemispherical dome portion and an inlet opening 2 into which a fuel injector 1 projects. The wall of the chamber 3 is formed with tangential air inlet openings 7 which are directed upstream towards the fuel injector. The apparatus is enclosed within an outer casing 6 to which air is supplied, the air passing through the openings 7 into the combustion space within the chamber 3. The wall of the chamber 4 is also formed with tangential air inlet openings, but these are not directed with an axial component. The combustion gases discharge from the chamber 4 through outlet 8. The apparatus may be provided with more than one constriction 5 so as to afford three or more chambers.
