Abstract
1451801 Lintels ASSET BUILDING COMPONENTS Ltd 5 Oct 1973 [6 March 1973] 11038/73 Heading E1K A sheet-metal lintel for bridging across an opening in a wall or building is of hollow box section having generally horizontal top and bottom walls, the former being adapted to support the inner skin of a cavity wall and the latter extending at least partly across the cavity, a vertical rear wall,: and a front wall which comprises a vertical upper portion and a forwardly and downwardly inclined lower portion, the lintel also including a flange extending forwardly from the lintel in substantially the same plane as the bottom wall. In the Fig. 1 embodiment, two sheet metal parts 10, 11 are connected together by welding. at corners 12, 13 to provide a box section having horizontal top and bottom walls 18, 20, a rear vertical wall 19, a front wall comprising upper vertical portion 21 and inclined lower portion 22, and a horizontal flange 15 extending forwardly from the bottom wall 20, the latter being formed by an extension of the wall 20 and a horizontal extension 25 of the lower portion 22 which is bent around the forward edge of the extension of wall 20 to which it is welded at 27. A strengthening plate 30 of. L section is secured in place by welding at 32, 34. The bar may be further strengthened by internal partitions 14 having openings 43, and keying for plaster 37 is provided by separate members 36 welded to the walls 19, 20. In a modification, Fig. 4, keying is instead provided by folds 55 in the sheet metal of these walls. In a further modification (Fig. 2, not shown) three sheet metal parts are used, the additional join being at the bottom rear corner of the bar where obtuse angled flanges are welded together to provide a plastering gauge. In a further modification (Fig. 3, not shown) there is a downwardly and forwardly angled extension at the front of the flange 15, and the flanges at the upper corner 12 are replaced by overlapped top portions giving a top wall 18 of double thickness.
